A League of Women Voters occurs as United States non-partisan political organization founded in 1920 by Carrie Chapman Catt during a meeting of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. It began as a "mighty political experiment" aimed to help freshly enfranchised women exercise their responsibilities when elector.

A league is non-nonpartizan in the feel that it doesn't endorse or even oppose political candidates at any level of government. A league puts out neutral elector guides that state & compare candidates' positions in various issues. A league besides staffs precincts in election day helping to administer elections.

Yet, a league does choose official stances, generally progressive, in various issues. Historically it supported child labor laws, civil rights legislation, the Equal Rights Amendment, and a Motor Voter law. Extra recently, it has supported campaign finance reform, gun control, and electoral reform, and has taken positions in the growing total of public policy areas. A League of Women Voters Education Fund sponsored a 1976, 1980, and 1984 presidental debates. Notwithstanding, this sponsorship changed inside 1987 when a Democratic & Gop formed the Commission on Presidential Debates which gave a parties greater control across the debate environment. A league continues to sponsor & moderate candidates' meetings & debates for local elections nationwide.

A League of Women Voters has around 130,000 members.
